What is Sinusitis?

sinusitisSinusitis is a common condition in which the membranes in your sinus cavities become inflamed and swollen. This inflamation causes a blockage in the nasal passage that inhibits natural draining of mucus from the sinuses. Because the mucus is not allowed to drain, it backs up into the sinus cavities, causing you pressure and discomfort.

Chronic Sinusitis Symptoms

Symptoms may include any combination of the following: nasal congestion, facial pain, headache, night-time coughing, general malaise, thick green or yellow discharge, feeling of facial "fullness" or "tightness" that may worsen when bending over, dizziness, aching teeth, and/or halitosis.

Treatment Options

If you suffer with Chronic Sinus Infections, treatment can be frustrating--going back and forth to your primary care physician or urgent care center. Typically, you are prescribed antibiotics and steroid sprays, but it just keeps coming back. It might make sense to see a specialist to see if you are a candidate for a minimally invasive procedure called Balloon Sinus Dilation.
